S.O.S.
I really don't know what to say. The destruction to the barrier islands is extensive. Many houses just collapsed under a 10ft. tidal surge and washed away. I personally know people that lost their jobs and homes completely,,, as in the structures aren't there. If you drive through the Walmart, (any walmart in a 3 county area), and asked people sleeping in tents if they thought they would've been homeless last week and the answer would be the same. No, no one expected that intense of a storm on short notice.
My timeline, Monday before lunch it was going to N. Tampa and we shut the job down after lunch. Next morning, Tues. it was heading to Port Charlotte and sometime on Wednesday. it hit. Very few people evacuated and many sheltered in place. Lee County has had the highest fatalities with around 70 depending on the latest update. Sanibel and Pine Island were probably the most impacted, and that's hard to imagine after seeing the damage to F.M.B. and the Shrimp Docks. Hardest hit, as to be expected, were the trailer and R.V. parks that were located west of Hwy41 from Naples to Sarasota. Almost everything on the water got flooded as well. In short, it was an amount of water/ tidal surge that has never been documented in this part of Florida. At least not that I'm aware of,,, need to research that.
